The Reclaim CoLab Podcast: More Than the Hobby
What happens when you bring together the perspective of a former NFL All-Pro and the perspective of a collector, creator and entrepreneur?
That’s part of the idea behind the new Reclaim CoLab Podcast, hosted by Herman Moore and Reclaim Customs founder Eric Wagenmaker.
A Different Kind of Hobby Conversation
Reclaim CoLab was created around the idea that memorabilia can be more than something we simply collect. Behind a jersey, autograph, photograph or artifact is a story, and those stories can be preserved and transformed into something entirely new.
The podcast gives us another way to explore that idea.
Some episodes will dive into the sports card and memorabilia hobby itself: what collectors are buying, how the market is changing, authentication, grading, scarcity, value and the issues affecting collectors right now.
But we also want to take listeners behind the scenes of Reclaim CoLab.
As new collaborations and projects come together, we'll use the podcast to tell the stories behind them. Where did the memorabilia come from? Why does it matter? What are we creating with it? And why might that finished piece mean something entirely different to an athlete, collector, fan or family member?
Sometimes the finished product will be the destination. Other times, it's simply the vehicle for telling a much bigger story.
Episode 1: The State of the Card-Collecting Hobby
For our first episode, Herman and Eric sat down to talk about where the sports card hobby finds itself today.
The conversation touches on the changing landscape of sports card licensing, the cost and experience of ripping wax, grading and authentication, scarcity, what makes certain cards matter, and how collectors can be more intentional about where they spend their money.
And like any good conversation, we didn't always stay on the outline.
Herman brings a particularly interesting perspective to these discussions. He's not simply looking at sports memorabilia as a collector. He's been on the other side of it. His jerseys, autographs, photographs and career accomplishments are themselves part of the memorabilia world.
Put that perspective alongside Eric's experience as a collector and the founder of a company that works with meaningful memorabilia every day, and there is plenty to talk about.
