Mickey Mantle, the 1962 World Series, and Preserving Baseball History

Some projects are built around a player.

Others are built around a moment in time.

This custom Mickey Mantle collectible celebrates both.

At the heart of the piece is an authentic Mickey Mantle cut autograph, accompanied by three authentic relics harvested from genuine Leaf Trading Cards and an original ticket stub from Game 3 of the 1962 World Series. Together, they tell the story of one of baseball's most celebrated eras and one of the greatest Fall Classics ever played.

The 1962 World Series

When baseball historians debate the greatest World Series ever played, the 1962 matchup between the New York Yankees and the San Francisco Giants is almost always part of the conversation.

The series featured Hall of Fame talent on both sides. Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris led the Yankees, while Willie Mays, Orlando Cepeda, Willie McCovey, and Juan Marichal anchored a loaded Giants roster. The seven-game battle remained remarkably even throughout, ultimately ending with one of the most dramatic finishes in World Series history when Bobby Richardson caught Willie McCovey's scorching line drive to preserve a 1-0 Yankees victory in Game 7.

Nearly every game felt like it could swing the series.

Game 3: Momentum Shifts in New York

The ticket stub embedded in this custom collectible comes from Game 3, played at Yankee Stadium on October 7, 1962.

With the series tied at one game apiece, the Yankees needed a response. They got one in a tightly contested 3-2 victory behind strong pitching from Bill Stafford.

Roger Maris continued proving he was much more than the man who had broken Babe Ruth's single-season home run record just one year earlier. His clutch hitting helped spark the Yankees, while Bobby Richardson once again delivered the dependable defense and timely offense that made him one of October's most reliable performers. Richardson's postseason résumé remains one of the greatest in baseball history, including a .305 career World Series batting average and numerous World Series records.

Game 3 gave New York the momentum it desperately needed and helped set the stage for one of the most memorable championship series baseball has ever witnessed.

Preserving Mantle's Legacy

While the autograph and ticket provide direct connections to baseball history, we wanted the relic portion of this project to be equally meaningful.

To accomplish that, we carefully harvested three authentic Mickey Mantle relics from genuine Leaf Trading Cards, allowing each embedded relic to retain its authenticated connection while becoming part of an entirely new custom presentation.

Rather than focusing on a single oversized swatch, the design showcases three individual relic windows, creating balance while highlighting multiple pieces of memorabilia from one of baseball's most iconic players.

Combined with premium gold foil detailing, the result is a museum-inspired collectible that celebrates Mantle's legacy without losing sight of the history surrounding it.

A Piece That Tells a Story

At Reclaim Customs, our goal has never been simply to create beautiful trading cards.

Our goal is to preserve history.

By combining an authentic Mickey Mantle cut autograph, three authentic Mantle relics harvested from Leaf Trading Cards, and an original Game 3 ticket stub from the legendary 1962 World Series, this project captures far more than memorabilia. It captures a defining chapter in baseball history.

For collectors, that's what makes a custom piece truly unforgettable.
